The NDIS is changing โ again. And we know how exhausting that sentence can feel when you're already navigating plans, budgets, and support workers. So let us cut through the noise and explain what the new mandatory provider registration rules actually mean for you as a participant in Perth.
We've been watching these reforms closely โ not just as a registered NDIS provider, but as a family-run business that genuinely cares about the people we support. When new laws affect the people we work with every day, we feel it's our job to explain them in plain English. No jargon. No spin. Just honest information.
What's Actually Changing?
On 8 April 2026, the NDIS Amendment (Integrity and Safeguarding) Act 2026 received Royal Assent, giving the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission significantly stronger powers to oversee, investigate and act against providers who don't meet the required standards.
Which Providers Must Be Registered from 1 July 2026?
- Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers
- Platform providers โ apps and digital services like Mable or Hireup
- Support Coordination providers
- Providers of personal care and daily living supports in certain settings
Important: If you're currently using an unregistered provider for any of these support types, they will need to become registered by July 2026 โ or they can no longer legally deliver your supports.
Key Dates to Know
- April 8, 2026 โ Integrity & Safeguarding Act passed
- July 1, 2026 โ Mandatory registration begins for SIL, platforms and support coordinators
- Mid-2026 โ New planning framework rolls out gradually
- October 1, 2026 โ Budget adjustments for some community participation supports
Why Is This Happening? (And Is It a Good Thing?)
Honestly? We think it's a good thing โ even though it means more work for providers like us. The NDIS has had a fraud and quality problem for years. Registered providers must pass independent audits, meet the NDIS Practice Standards, complete worker screening checks, and have policies and procedures in place for complaints, incidents and safeguarding. These are real protections for real people.
What Should You Do Right Now?
- Ask your current providers: "Are you registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission?"
- Check the NDIS Commission's provider register at ndiscommission.gov.au
- Ask platform app providers whether they will be registered by July 2026
- Speak to your Support Coordinator or LAC about how these changes affect your plan
- Don't wait โ if your provider isn't planning to register, you need time to find an alternative
